December 11

Yesterday Dec 10 we did 20 km in tough sastrugi. It was hard going but clear weather, we are at camp. Last night we pitched tents while it was blowing and snowing. Wind blew from the east and blew all night. Today we were on the road by 8:30 am. Temperature was -4 to -5 with east wind, it was quite warm. I skied without a hat for awhile. Most of the day was a white out conditions, tough navigation for much of time. It's like skiing in the clouds. When the sun is completely hidden the horizon in all definition disappears. You can just follow your compass line and plot on. Snow drifted in from sastrugi gully's but spots were like you ran into something without seeing it. It is an eerie sensation when you seem to be floating only held up by your skis. A good day, 21.1km today. Eric, Bernice and I took turns leading with the compass. The team is plodding on. The team is great and very motivated.

Hi George,

Keep up the posts; it's truly fascinating to hear about a part of the world that few of us will ever have a chance to explore. Look forward to seeing some pics posted! All the best. JC
